We cannot pinpoint to one specific cause to be responsible for the autism condition. Actually, the exact answer to this question was not found yet. Autism has been attributied to several causes, but the two likely suspected ones are: gentics and environmental factors.

Here are some possibilities:

  • A recent sutdy strongly proposes that genetic predisposition to autism is a cause. Many genes have been identified responsible for this suscibtibility.
  • Some studies show abnormality in some parts of the brain. It is believed that it is probably due to an interference with the early brain development during pregnancy. Children with autism exhibit unusual shape and structure of the brain. Consequently, an unsual brain reflects an unusual behavior.
  • The brain’s development in children with autism is different form typically developed children. The growth and development is large and fast in the beginning, than it slows down as they grow older, as opposed to typically develped peers.
  • Another hypothesis suggests that the body’s immune system causes autism by creating and sending antibodies to assault the brain.
  • Viral infections during pregnancy and delivery may cause autism.
  • Troubled metabolism may cause autism.
  • Exposure to environmental chemicals may cause autistic behavior.

One, or a combination, of the above causes could be responsible for your child’s diagnosis with autism.
