Impaired Attention Is Not A Trait of Autism
Nadia Shanab | Uncategorized1 Aug 2013
Although some children with autism exhibit poor attention skills, a research suggests that autism cannot be blamed for.
The main three autism traits are:
- Poor social skills
- Poor communication skills
- Limited areas of interest
The cause of holding these signs accountable for autism has not been found yet.
The study suggests to take the following two attentional abilities off the list:
- Moving attention fluidly
- Orienting to social information
That doesn’t imply that children with autism don’t have attention disorders, but it is not a key factor of autism itself or it is not at the root of autism symptoms.
The study is published in Clinical Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. Lead researchers Jason Fisher and Kami Koldewyn.Co-auther Nancy Kanwisher of MIT and Yuhong Jiang of the University of Minnesota.
Tip
Parents and educators, you are strongly encouraged to teach your child/student to focus on the task at hand, as well as to attend to social interactions.
