An Obsession Can Lead to A Career

Instead of saying the child is obsessed with a certain subject or an activity, we can call it an interest or area of strength. Things that we keep doing or repeating over and over are things that we can do well. For example practicing a sport, riding a bike, playing a game, reading in certain subjects, drawing, painting, cooking,etc..

Repetition may seem to be an abnormality, but this is actually the way to perfect what one likes to do.

Find your child’s strengths or interests and allow her to dive into them. This might open a door for a bright future.

Dr. Temple Grandin -the world’s most famous autistic adult- loved the animals when she was young. She became an animal scientist at the Colorado State University. Besides, she became a designer of livestock handling facilities.

Stephen Wiltshire, used to be a severely autistic child, did nothing but drawing all day long. He became a unique artist to draw panoramic views of the world’s biggest cities. autism-tips.com/?p=1558

Many famous computer scientists and programmers were spending hours and hours on their computers and video games when they were little autistic kids.

The examples are numerous. They all remained autistic, but their obsessions turned into a successful future.

Take your cues from your child and help her reach her full potential.
