An article published today, June 5, 2013, about a new research done at Kennedy Krieger Institute suggests that one third of the children diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) between 4 and 8 years of age, also showed clinically clear symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.<\/p>\n
The study published in Autism<\/em>: The International Journal and Practice, <\/em>recognized an important co-occurrence of ADHD and ASD.<\/p>\n In this one third of population it is likely that thier cognitive, social and adaptive functioning is impaired compared to those diagnosed with ASD only.<\/p>\n Finding a relation between the two conditions ASD and ADHD can help refine the quality of life of these children.<\/p>\n One good thing about the new DSM-5 is the removal of the prohibition of the dual diagnosis with ASD and ADHD.
