An important research ran by UC Davis MIND Institute researchers found a link between maternal diabetes and children born with ASD and other developmental disorders.<\/p>\n
Mothers who were obese are 67% more likely to have children with ASD as the normal-weighted mothers withe no diabetes or hypertention, and more than twice to have a child with other developmental disorder.
\nThe findings also suggest that children with ASD born to diabetic mothers have more language disabilities, socialization, communication problems than children with ASD born to a healthy mother.<\/p>\n
In the US over 60% of expecting mothers are overweight, and 10% have diabetes type 2.<\/p>\n
The research doesn’t conclude that diabetes or obesity cause autism, it only suggests that the maternal metabolic conditions may be liked to neurodevelopmental disorders.<\/p>\n
Obesity is an important factor for risk of diabetes and hypertention.<\/p>\n
